Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hardens his anti-U.S. rhetoric, as nuclear negotiations resume this week. Addressing a hall of several hundred military commanders, he said America — not Iran — was the greatest threat to the world.
As the highest authority in Iran, Khamenei has supported the nuclear talks but continues to express deep mistrust of the United States.
“The myth of Iranian nuclear weapons was created by the Americans, with the Europeans and others, with the purpose of showing Iran as a threat. No, America is itself the threat. The American regime is the greatest threat to the world today, with its irrelevant interference anywhere it pleases in the world, without any control.”, he said.
Earlier this month Iran and six world powers including the United States reached a framework accord on Iran’s disputed nuclear program that clears the way for talks on a future comprehensive settlement.
Khamenei has warned of what he called the “devilish” intentions of the United States, even as he reaffirmed his support for Iran’s negotiating team.
