Japan holds annual event of Sanma to welcome autumn

Tokyo (Japan), Sep 26 (ANI): People wear goggles to prevent burning their eyes from the smoke grilling “Sanma” fish in Japan. Sanma is known as a fish that signals the arrival of autumn in Japan. In Meguro city of Tokyo, the “Sanma Festival” is held in September every year. At the festival, about 5,000 Sanma are grilled on charcoal fire and distributed to visitors and the venue remains filled with the smoke and smell of sanma. Sanma is a famous grilled fish, known for its delicious fatty meat in Japan. At the table, visitors enjoy eating sanma by removing small bones. Meguro is a town far away from the sea, but it has a unique reason to hold “Sanma festival”. “Rakugo”, a traditional Japanese comedy storytelling is held at the festival in Meguro. In this, the performer tells a funny story through body action and facial expression that makes customers laugh their hearts out. A famous Rakugo story is called “Sanma of Meguro.” The humorous story set in the Edo period is about sanma. A General, who ruled Japan attracted by the delicious taste of sanma, went to the town of Meguro looking for that fish. Japan is a wonderful country where one can enjoy sightseeing in all four seasons. The connection between traditional “Rakugo” storytelling and food culture is attracting attention of foreign tourists as a sightseeing location in autumn.
