Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually rejected a temple dedicated to his name in Gujarat, a day after it was revealed in media that such a temple is all set to be inaugurated on February 16.
The Prime Minister said in a tweet that he is appalled at the news of a Temple dedicated to him. He called in against country’s great traditions and asked his supporters to refrain from doing such things. He rather asked them to dedicated the same time and resources towards Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan.“Have seen the news about a Temple being built in my name. I was appalled. This is shocking & against India’s great traditions. Building such Temples is not what our culture teaches us. Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it. If you have time & resources, please devote the same towards fulfilling our dream of a Clean India.”, the Prime Minister said in a series of 3 tweets.
The temple has been constructed at Kothariya Road in Rajkot district of Gujarat. It has been constructed by Om Yuva Group by seeking small donations across the state.
The Group members say that Narendra Modi is an inspiration and icon for everyone in the state and many people even worship him as God. The work done by him as Chief Minister and now as Prime Minister is exemplary, said another group member.
While the temple is ready for inauguration on Feb 16, it is not clear who would inaugurate it. The Group members expect some BJP Minister to inaugurate it, however with the disapproval by the Prime Minister, it is unlikely that anyone from BJP would do it.
