People across faiths take part in ‘Sindhu Darshan festival’

Ladakh (J&K), July 01 (ANI): Reputed for its vibrancy and splendour, the Sindhu Darshan Utsav is regarded as the pride of Kashmir and is held every year on the banks of River Sindhu at Shey Manla village of Ladakh, amidst immense pomp and gaiety. Dedicated to river Indus, the famous Sindhu Yatra, Buddhist chants, prayers, and a variety of song and dance from various states are a part of this beautiful four day festival. Through their dance performances, artists showcase their love for River Sindhu as well as for their country along with celebrating the braveness of Indian soldiers stationed in the regions of Kargil, Siachen and other areas. Displaying the concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’ in the most articulate and profound manner, the festival is well known to bring together a variety of diverse cultures and traditions on a single platform. The Sindhu Darshan is a spectacular event that comprises of a series of spiritual processes for the sanctification of the soul. First it involves a holy dip into the sacred river after which men and women put in their best costumes and also pay homage to the Mighty River for her blessings. After a holy bath men offer Tarpan in the memory of their forefathers. This is basically an age old tradition to offer water to the soul of the dead and is believed this act in river Indus would permanently release the soul from the clutches of the worldly bonds. Besides paying homage to the holy river, the festival is a great opportunity for the visitors to come and experience the beautiful culture of Leh and know about its people. Having such a great significance in our Indian history, the river is supposed to be the most fortunate and beneficial. Thus to celebrate its glory and project Sindhu River as a symbol of the country’s multi-dimensional cultural identity, communal harmony and peaceful co-existence, the festival was started in the year 2000, and since then it is attended by the people of all communities every year. Sindhu Darshan festival is a movement that rediscovers the flowing legend of Ladakh with its imprints of fables, and a 5000 year old history embedded in its fertile silt, which has enriched humankind for ages.
