Mixed response to ML bandh call

PATNA: The CPI-ML (Liberation) call for nationwide rural bandh against price rise evoked mixed response in Bihar. An estimated 3,000 panchayats across the state were affected by the bandh.

According to the CPI-ML HQ here, farming activities in 31 of the state’s 38 districts were hit. The affected districts included Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna, Siwan, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Madhubani, Khagaria, Sitamarhi, Araria, Supaul, Madhepura, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Saran and West Champaran.

Party supporters took out rallies in the state capital and in Ara, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Siwan, Biharsharif, Nawada, Sasaram and Jehanabad to make the bandh a success.

At Patna, the party workers led by Kamlesh Sharma, Saroj Chaubey and Abhyudaya marched through the streets in a rally which culminated into a meeting at the Patna Junction roundabout where the bandh supporters burnt the effigies of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh.
