Patna, Nov 22 (PTI) The shortage of electricity in Bihar will soon become a thing of past if the Centre gives its nod to a proposal for allocation of 50 per cent power produced from new projects based in the state, NTPC Chairman Arup Kumar Choudhury said today.
“There is a proposal under consideration of the Centre that there should be an outright allocation of 50 per cent electricity to the states from the power projects coming up in their juridiction,” he told reporters here.
“If the union cabinet gives its nod to the proposal,Bihar will benefit immensely and will be able to meet its power requirements,” Chaudhury said.
NTPC is in the process of executing four thermal power projects in Bihar with a generation capacity of 4690 MW, apart from its two operational plants with a generation capacity of 2450 MW.
On the power scenario at the national level, he said there is a need to translate the promised power generation capacity of one lakh MW under 12th five-year plan.
