Bihar Education Project bags award

PATNA: The Bihar Education Project (BEP) got the Manthan South Asia Award for e-governance for the year 2010 under the e-education category for its project “Implementation of computer aided learning in 244 schools in Bihar under the BEP-India”.

The theme for this year’s Manthan awards was “Digital inclusion for development”. The award was given to 41 winners in 16 categories from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan.

CM Nitish Kumar had inaugurated BEP’s “Computer Aided Learning Project” in 2009. The scheme involved identification of hard spots in the curriculum of languages and mathematics being taught in class VI to VIII. These hard spots were converted into multi-media based e-content with 171 such contents being developed by the BEP in association with the SCERT and subject-specific teachers of government schools.

These contents were taught in 244 schools across the state through computers and K-YAN, a multi-media equipment. The scheme benefited around 1.29 lakh students.
