Bihar regiment cycle expedition flagged-in

BANGALORE: The 16 Bihar of the Indian Army will be celebrating its silver jubilee in February 2011. On this occasion, a multi-dimensional expedition which involved cycling and trekking by covering a distance of 640 km in Karnataka was flagged in to the city on Wednesday.

The expedition comprising an officer, a junior commissioned officer and eight other ranks was flagged off from Bangalore to Coorg on December 6.

The team conducted a number of lectures for school children in remote villages enroute, to motivate them to join the armed forces. The team, after cycling a distance of 300 km, trekked to the peak of Tadiyandamol which is at a height of 1,745 metres. After completing the trek successfully, the team commenced its journey back to Bangalore.

The expedition was flagged-in by Brigadier B A Prasad, deputy general officer commanding of 54 infantry division on Wednesday. He complimented the team for their zeal and dynamism and for undertaking detailed mapping of the region, understanding the ethos and culture of the inhabitants, strengthening bonds with the local youth, enthusing them about career prospects in the Indian army and empathising with the problems of the local ex-servicemen, thus upholding the glorious tradition of the Indian army.
