The Indian Express’s Bihar team has bagged Rajasthan Patrika’s KC Kulish ‘International Award for Excellence In Print Journalism’ in the ‘Merit Awards’ category.
Special Correspondent Santosh Singh and photographer Paras Nath won the award for ‘42 harassed,many in jail’, a story about the people harassed and jailed for seeking information under the RTI Act. Following publication of the story in this newspaper on November 6, 2009, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had ordered a probe into such complaints.
Awards also went to journalists from US, Ghana and Pakistan. Ghanian newspaper The New Crusading Guide got the main award for its stories, ‘Undercover inside Ghana’s madhouse’ and ‘Undercover inside Chinese sex mafia’. Los Angeles-based La Opinion won an award in ‘Merit Awards’ category for the story ‘Prisoners of ignorance and tradition’. Pakistan’s Daily Jung Mir bagged an award for its story ‘Missing person of Balochistan’
Rajasthan Patrika Deputy Editor Bhuwanesh Jain said, “The award, set up in memory of Patrika group’s founder, Karpoor Chandra Kulish, recognises the outstanding work of a team of journalists published in newspapers consistent with the theme.â€
