New Medical Colleges to Be Set Up in Bihar

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has laid thrust on toning up medical services in Bihar and speeding up the process for setting up new medical colleges and hospitals.

“A slew of measures are being taken to help further tone up health care in Bihar,” state health department sources said.

Steps would be taken to fill up vacancies in the existing six medical colleges and to step up the opening new medical colleges at Bettiah, Madhepura, Pawapuri and IGIMS in Patna, he said.

Kumar also laid stress on total utilization of funds under National Rural Health Mission and speed up the exercise to issue health cards to school students.

Patients admitted to primary health centres would get food free of cost to benefit the poor sections specially in rural areas, the official said.

A separate public health cadre would be given the responsibility of handling administrative work in health institutions and create awareness about sanitation, hygiene and prevention of diseases, he said.
