Thermal power plants to be set up in Bihar

Efforts are on to set up three new thermal power plants in Bihar to fulfil Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s promise to light up all the villages in the state by 2015, officials said on Friday.

The thermal power plants expected to generate 3,960 MW of energy have been proposed to be set up at Kajra in Lakhisarai, Pirpainti in Bhagalpur and Chausa in Buxar district, they said.

Against the daily requirement of 2000 MW, the state used to produce around 150 MW to 200 MW of power every day while additional energy requirements were being met through central pool.

According to official reports, Bihar has 72,000 km of electric transmission wires that are dilapidated and need immediate replacement.
