Women’s role in Bihar growth vital

PATNA: Information and public relations department ( IPRD) minister Brishen Patel on Thursday said the women of Bihar have been contributing a lot in the socio-economic development of Bihar.

“The scenario in the state has changed considerably with the political empowerment of women. The state will soon become a developed one with the active cooperation of women,” Patel said while addressing the valedictory session of the two-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on “Empowerment of women in rural Bihar” organised by the political science department of Sri Arvind Mahila College, Patna, here.

Patel said the Nitish government’s endeavour to give women their rightful place in the society has been yielding positive results with the increasing success of various developmental programmes. He wished the college and its students all success in its golden jubilee year.

Patna Doordarshan director Shailesh Pandit, in his presidential remarks, said women are the backbone of a civilised society and a society cannot progress if its women are weak.

Govt stays city college principal transfer: The state HRD department has stayed the transfer of AN College principal Haridwar Singh and asked the Magadh University VC to clarify why Singh was transferred to SMD College, Punpun. In a letter to the MU VC, higher education director JP Singh pointed out that there was no need to transfer Singh as he is due to retire within two months. Interestingly, new principal Shashi Pratap Shahi has since as-sumed the charge of AN College as Singh is currently on leave.
