Bihar tightens security for Republic Day

Patna, Jan 25 (PTI) Security measures have been tightened across Bihar on the eve of Republic Day celebrations. “We have beefed up security measures for tomorrow’s celebrations across the state”, Director General of Police Neelmani said.

All the police stations have been put on maximum alert and patrolling has been intensified, Neelmani said. The Station House Officers (SHOs) have been asked to keep close watch on the movement of anti-socials. Extra security attention is being paid to vital installations, official sources said. Vigil along Indo-Nepal boraders with West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Araria and Madhubani districts has also been intensified to prevent infiltration of trouble-makers from across the border, the sources said. Special security arrangements have been made in Patna, Senior Superintendent of Police B S Meena said. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at Gandhi Maidan, where governor Devanand Konwar would be unfurling the national flag, he said. Armed police personnel would be deployed at high-rise buildings and government installations in and around Gandhi Maidan to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Republic Day, Meena said. “All DSPs, stations officers and sub-inspectors have been deputed to ensure fool-proof-security to VVIPs at the Gandhi Maidan where a large number of people often assemble to watch the function,” Meena said. “Personnel of the special task force and the central reserve police force have also been deployed at various places. Security at the airport is also strengthened in coordination with the CISF, the police said.
