World Bank will provide a soft loan worth 1,000 crore rupees to Bihar for infrastructure building and construction of dwellings in Kosi region that was ravaged following a breach in river Kushaha in Nepal on August 18, 2008. The soft loan would facilitate the reconstruction of about One Lakh houses, 90 bridges and 290 kilometers of rural roads.
Chairman of World Bank, Robert B Zoellick will oversee the signing of an agreement with the Nitish Kumar government in Patna today. Mr Zoellick arrived in Patna on Tuesday evening on a two-day visit along with the Union Minister for Environment Jairam Ramesh. Five north Bihar districts, Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Purnia and Araria were ravaged by the turbulent Kosi during that time.
