PATNA: Principal secretary, industries, C K Mishra on Monday exhorted the entrepreneurs to protect their innovations, designs and trademarks by getting them patented and guard their copyright.
Inaugurating a workshop on `Intellectual Property for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Policy Makers And Facilitating Agencies organised under the aegis of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSMEDI), Patna, at the Bihar Industries Associations, he said that in the changing economic scenario and environment in the state, there were opportunities not just to run industries, but to be innovative for cost-effective production and effective marketing of the products.
Mishra said. He expressed satisfaction that in Bihar the sujni and embroidery art, sikky grass handicrafts and Madhubani paintings have been made area specific under the geographical index. He stressed on organising more programmes for creating awareness for protecting the intellectual property in Bihar.
Counsellor, Small and Medium Enterprises, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva, Anil Sinha, while speaking on `Innovation-Based Entrepreneurship told the entrepreneurs to seek technical assistance for registration of patents. Lawyers and patent experts are needed for the purpose, he said, adding that in a `knowledge economy the intellectual properties are the assets which should not be shared with others, but should be used by the entrepreneurs for advancement of their own industries and enterprises, he said.
MSMEDI director D K Singh appealed to the entrepreneurs to take help of his organisation in case of the intellectual property registrations. Professor of WTO studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Madhukar Sinha, gave tips to the entrepreneurs for ensuring their intellectual property rights.
