MOTIHARI: Minister for external affairs S M Krishna on Friday laid the stone of an integrated checkpost and a road project at Alou in Nepal’s Birganj, near Indo-Nepal border.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna said the ties between the two neighbouring countries are set to strengthen further in days to come. He also assured adequate assistance to Nepal in the fields of education, health and road.
The integrated checkpost at Birganj, the second largest commercial city of Nepal adjacent to Raxaul in Bihar’s East Champaran district, is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 124 crore under India-Nepal economic cooperation. It would be completed within 14 months.
The function was presided over by Nepal’s physical planning and works minister Topbahadur Ray Manjhi. He thanked the government of India for its support to Nepal for its development.
India has launched a Tarai Road Project under which 19 roads, measuring 605km, would be constructed in Nepal. Krishna laid the stone of 52-km-long Birganj-Thori road which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 76 crore.
Home minister P Chidambram had on April 24 last year laid the stone of another integrated checkpost at Raxaul. Its construction work is going on in full swing.
