Bihari community to setup Maa Janki temple at Ahmedabad

Here comes good news for devotees of Maa Janki (Goddess Sita) in Amdavad. The city is soon going to be the second place in the country to have a temple in her honour.

The city’s Maa Janki Sewa Samiti (MJSS) has taken an initiative to construct a Maa Janki temple in the city. However, the matter is still in the planning stage. “We have proposed such a temple in Ahmedabad and have seen land in a few areas. We are still searching for land in and around the city to build the temple,” said a member of the samiti. MJSS is an association formed by the Bihari community in the city five years ago.

Currently there is only one Janki temple in the country, at Punaura village of Sitamarhi district in Bihar, which is also believed to be the birth place of the goddess. So then, what made the association consider a temple in Gujarat? A member of MJSS said, “In Gujarat, the strength of the Bihari community is in lakhs. Hence, we believe that a temple here would mark our community’s presence in the state.”

The plan of the samiti is to have a huge temple of Sita in the city, which would mean large-scale construction. To meet these expenses, the samiti will invite donations from citizens of this state and others.

“The samiti does not have funds to finance such a huge project. Hence, we are asking for donations from devotees in and around the state,” stated a member of MJSS.

The samiti will discuss the matter in detail in the coming days and will announce its plans on May 1, in its Sneh Milan, a yearly cultural and felicitation programme for the community.
