Pakistan to provide 50% Reservation to Woman in Parliament

While India might be wondering about providing Reservation to Women in Parliament,Pakistan on its way to provide 50 percent Reservation to Women in Parliament. Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says that he dreams of a Pakistani parliament that will have 50 percent women, it was reported here.

Zardari attended a discussion hosted by the United States Institute of Peace in Washington where he highlighted the role of women in Pakistan, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

He quoted his mother Benazir Bhutto, a former prime minister who was assassinated in 2007, as saying that “the people who resent me do so because I am young, I am a Bhutto and I am a woman”.

Bilawal said: “The same people resent me because I am young, I am a Bhutto and I am proud to say I am a feminist.”

“I am proud of the PPP government for passing the most legislations in favour of women than all the governments in the past. I am proud we made history with first female prime minister of Islamic world, first female foreign minister of Pakistan (Hina Rabbani Khar) and first female National Assembly Speaker of Pakistan (Fehmida Mirza),” he added.

He went on to say that it is his dream that in his life time the Pakistani parliament will be composed of 50 percent women and the cabinet will have 50 percent women.

Currently, there is 22.5 percent representation of women in the country’s parliament.
