Mithu Chowdhury was relatively unknown housewife from Kolkata, until she was declared the Winner of Dance India Dance Super Mom 2013 Contest organized by Zee TV at a function held at Surat in Gujarat.
Mithu is mother of two sons aged four and seven. She was reportedly encouraged by her husband to participate in DID Super Mom 2013. She beat four other contestants – Shraddha Shah from Surat, Cecille Rodrigues from Goa, Zoya Khan from Dehradun and Phulwa Khamkar from Mumbai – to win the title.
As the Winner she received a Cheque of Rs 10 Lakhs from Superstar Mithun Chakraborty. She plans to donate a part of her winning amount to an orphanage.
Attributing about her success, she says “I owe my success to my mother, husband as they have been the ones who pushed me to audition in the first place. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be here. The other person who has put his heart and soul into my win is my skipper Siddhesh who has worked with me day in and day out right from the start”.
During Finale, Mithu played to the audiences with current Bollywood favorites ‘1234 Get On The Dance Floor’ and ‘Pinky’. Talking after the win she reveals that she did learn Bharatanatyam few years back but she had never made it to stage before DID.
Being obese was never a problem for this Bengali Mom. In fact She lost 12 kilos while performing at various levels during the competition.
Her performance was so mesmerising that during Kolkata audition, Farah Khan said to her “Whoever said that being overweight means you cannot dance…you have just proved all of them wrong!â€
Actress Sonakshi Sinha who made a special appearance on the sets of show also praised Mithu. “The last time I was on the show I remember telling Mithu never to consider herself any less than anyone else. I am extremely happy that Mithu has been declared the winner of the show. She is an inspiration to thousands of women across the country to never give up on themselves.†said Sonakshi about Mithu’s win.
Mithu was part of the team of Siddhesh who remarks about her “I am really proud of Mithu for what she has achieved today. I think she is an inspiration to all the mothers out there who might have given up on their dreams post marriage. Right from the auditions to the finale, she has worked very hard and completely deserves the trophy! I wish her all the very best for whatever the future has in store for her.â€
