Tripura beats Kerala to become the Most Literate State in India

The North Eastern State of Tripura has emerged as the State of India with the Highest Literacy Rate.

Today on September 8, which happens to be World Literacy Day, Tripura CM Manik Sarkar declared that the Literacy Rate of Tripura was 94.65%, which is the highest in India as per available records.

The Results are based upon a recently conducted survey in all districts of the Tripura state.  Till Date Kerala had the reputation of being the State of Highest Literacy Rate with 93.91% Literacy according to 2011 Census. However, the 2013 Literacy Rate of other States of India is not known yet!

Interestingly Tripura has achieved this feat in a very short time. In 2001 Census, it was at 7th Position in Literacy Rate, while during the 2011 census it was at 3rd position.  The State aims to attain 100% Literacy through its various programme and initiatives.

During 2001-11, Tripura showed the second highest leap in Literacy Rate in country with 14.61%, next only to Bihar (16.8%).

The Average Literacy Rate in India is 74.04% according to 2011 Census.
