World Famous Sonepur Cattle Fair to begin on November 16

The World Famous Sonepur Cattle Fair would begin from November 16 this year. The Annual Fair is held in the month of November at Sonepur, on the confluence of river Ganga and Gandak. The  Fair which would continue for a nearly a month is expecting over 1 Million Visitors this time.

Sonepur Cattle Fair is World’s largest Cattle Fair

Being World’s largest Cattle Fair, nearly all animals can be bought here including all breeds of dogs, camels, buffaloes, donkeys, ponies, monkeys, horses, rabbits, bears, cats and guinea pigs.

The Fair has its origins in ancient times when emperor Chandragupta Maurya used to buy elephants and horses from across Ganga.

To woo elite Tourists, BSTDC has been constructing Swiss Type Cottages in Tourist Village every year. This year it has constructed 20 double-bed Swiss Type cottages (with attached western toilets) in the Tourist Village to accommodate these tourists.

These specially erected thatched rooms having all the facilities and comforts of any good hotel, including uninterrupted power supply and well equipped bathrooms fitted with geysers. Free yoga classes and complementary elephant ride would also be provided to those booking cottages .These cost Rs 4000-7000 per day and the Tourists can book online at BSTDC Website.

BSTDC is also preparing special tourist packages to visit Sonepur from various places in Bihar. It includes stay in Swiss cottage, fair viewing, free elephant ride, motor boat ride in river Gandak and food at the tourist village. Reports are that a Houseboat trip from Patna to Sonepur via Ganges might be materialized.

The Fair attracts International Visitors from countries like France, Italy, US, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, Kazakhstan, Austria and Portugal.

Sonepur is situated in Saran district of Bihar and is just 25 km from the State Capital of Patna. The nearest Railway Station is Sonepur while the nearest Airport is Patna. It is well connected by road to the nearby towns and cities.
