IFFI 2013 to open with Malayalam Film Kanyaka Talkies

The 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2013) would be held at Panjim Goa from November 20 to Nov 30. The Jury has selected Malayalam Film Kanyaka Talkies as the Opening Film for the Festival.  The Jury has also selected  26 Feature films and 16 Non-Feature films from India to be screened at IFFI 2013.

The jury for Feature films was headed by renowned filmmaker and editor B. Lenin, while the Non-Feature films Jury was chaired by well-known director Raja Sen.

The Feature Film Jury choose KANYAKA TALKIES (Malayalam, Director: K. R. Manoj) as
the Opening Film of Indian Panorama 2013.  In the Non-Feature Film category, RANGABHOOMI (Hindi, Director : Kamal Swaroop) is the Opening film.

In the feature films category, the maximum number of films selected, 6 are in  Malayalam, 5 in Bengali, 5 in Hindi, 3 in Marathi and 2 in English. One film each have been selected in Konkani, Kannada, Mising, Oriya and Tamil.

In the non-feature films category, the maximum number of films selected, 5 are in Hindi,  3 in Malayalam, 3 in English, 2 in Marathi, 2 in Kashmiri and 1 in Kudukh.

Actress of Yesteryear Waheeda Rehman would be conferred with Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year at IFFI 2013. Czech Film Director Mr. Jiri Menzel would be conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award.

American Actress Susan Sarandon would be the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony on November 20, while Hollywood actress Michelle Yeoh, will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony on November 30.
