Tourists overjoyed as Tawang receives Seasons’s 1st Snowfall

Season’s First Snowfall were recorded in Tawang in last few days bringing cheer among Tourists visiting the Hill Station located in Arunachal Pradesh. The Snowfall is likely to give  a major boost to Local Tourism Industry.

Tawang which borders China  received few inches of snow in the past three days, with the temperature dipping below zero degree Celsius. The Picturesque town is located at the Altitude of 10000 ft above Sea Level.

Hundreds of tourists, including several foreigners, frolicked in the snow. The entire town was covered in in snow this morning.  Life was thrown out of gear with chilly winds lashing this Buddhist-dominated hilly town and the mercury level dropping drastically.

However, the Tawang town received less snow in comparison to other parts of Tawang district.

People mostly remained indoors to avoid the biting chill and kept themselves warm with bukharis fired by wood.

Moderate snowfall was recorded at Sella Pass, located at an altitude of 13,721 feet on the Tawang Bomdila road, the sources said. The mountains of Mechukha Valley in West Siang district also received snow in the past couple of days.

Tourists can travel to Tawang from Tezpur, Assam by road. Tezpur has direct flights from Kolkata. Guwahati, Assam, is 16 hours by road.  A daily helicopter service from Guwahati was started by the Arunachal Pradesh government.

Visitors to Tawang require special Inner Line permits from the government which are available in Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and New Delhi.
