Washington: Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri will participate in one of Washington DC’s fondest traditions, the 2014 Parade of the National Cherry Blossom Festival this Saturday, April 12. One of the Festival’s largest spectator events, the energy-filled Parade runs along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th streets, NW. Vibrant costumes and blossom-inspired décor set the atmosphere.
Nina will be among the celebrities to greet over 100,000 spectators. Loved by all ages, this parade is in its 102nd year and celebrates the 3,000 Cherry Trees in full bloom that were a gift to the people of Washington DC from Tokyo in 1912.
Nina will be singing “God Bless America” and will be accompanied by Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2014 Leah Sykes.
Giant colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, fourteen marching bands from across the country, and performers burst down Constitution Avenue in a grand spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the Festival.
WUSA 9 airs the Parade in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. The Parade will be nationally syndicated with the support of Events DC, to audiences across the country.
The Cherry Blossom Parade is produced by Emmy-Award winning producer and director, John M. Best, and his talented team – who will also organize this year’s Miss America Show Us Your Shoes Parade on Saturday, September 13th.
