Bollywood Actress Rani Mukherjee has married Filmmaker Aditya Chopra in a private wedding ceremony in Italy on April 21. In a statement to media, Rani has confirmed about her marriage.
“I would like to share the happiest day of my life with all my fans all over the world whose love and blessings have been part of my journey all these years. I know that all my well-wishers who have waited for this day will be really happy for me. It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us. The one person I missed terribly was Yash Uncle, but I know he was there with us in spirit and his love and blessings will always be with Adi and me. I have always believed in fairy-tales and with God’s grace my life has been exactly like one, and now as I enter the most important chapter of my life – the fairy-tale continues.” said Rani Mukerji in her statement.Film critic Taran Adarsh also tweeted, “Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji got married last night on 21st April in Italy. The wedding was a very small intimate affair.”
Rafiq Gangjee, vice president (marketing and communications), YRF, said in a statement, “We are happy to announce that Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji got married last night. The wedding was a very small intimate affair with very close family and friends.”
“We wish the couple a very happy married life,” Gangjee added.
The two had been in love for quite some time, however they never admitted in public. In an Interview with Filmfare in November 2012, Rani confessed that Aditya was just a friend.
In February 2013, Actor Shatrughan Sinha had addressed Rani as Rani Chopra. While unveiling the statue of Yash Chopra, Sinha said, “Pamela Chopra, Uday, Rani and other family members… just now my wife said I missed out on Aditya Chopra. When I am saying Rani Chopra’s name it is obvious I mean Aditya. (Jab maine Rani Chopra ka naam liya hai toh zaahir si baat hai ke Aditya ka bhi naam leta).”
For Aditya, who is the elder son of late filmmaker Yash Chopra, it is his second marriage. He was earlier married to Payal Khanna.
Rani Mukerji first met Aditya Chopra on the sets of Veer-Zaara in 2002. Their romance flared up into love but Aditya’s parents Yash Chopra and Pamela did not approve their marriage as they were very close to Aditya’s then wife Payal. Yash Chopra didn’t want Payal to leave the house. In 2009, Aditya Chopra filed for divorce and since then he and Rani were widely speculated to be a couple.
