Jagat Prakash Nadda (J P Nadda) is a Politician from Himachal Pradesh who serves as the General Secretary and Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party.
JP Nadda was born on 2 December 1960 in Patna, Bihar. His family hails from village Vijaypur in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. He completed his education in Patna University. As a child, he represented Bihar State in All India Junior Swimming Championship held at Delhi
J P Nadda’s first tryst with politics was seen during a popular people’s movement known as the Bihar movement. He joined Student Politics and became the active member of ABVP, He won the polls to become Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (A.B.V.P.), Patna University in 1977. He became Election in-charge, youth wing, B.J.P. during the Lok Sabha Elections 1989. In 1991 J P Nadda was made the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Since then he had been involved with BJP.
In 1998, J P Nadda became the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs in Himachal Pradesh State Government and served till 2003. During his tenure he started several health programs and promoted Generic Medicines.
In May 2012, J P Nadda was elected to Rajya Sabha. He also served as the President of Olympic Association, Himachal Pradesh from 2008 to 2012.
He is married to Dr. Mallika Nadda. who is currently a professor of history in Himachal Pradesh University and runs an NGO Chetna. She has received Rajiv Gandhi Manav Sewa Award, 2010. They have two sons.
