Special arrangements for zoo inmates in Gujarat to beat rising mercury

Vadodara, May 24 (ANI): In order to protect animals and birds at the Sayaji Baug zoo in Gujarat from soaring temperature, zoo authorities have made arrangements to provide relief to the inmates. Vadodara has been reeling under extreme heat wave with maximum temperature rising up to 42 degrees. The zoo authorities have put up shades alongside cages, placed sprinklers to keep the zoo surroundings cool and ice slabs inside enclosures of male and female bears to bring down the temperatures. Animals at the zoo, brought from different continents of the world, are finding it hard to adapt to rising daytime temperature. Special care is being taken for cat family, including lions, tigers, leopard and cats. To avoid dehydration in animals, a dosage of glucose and medicines with vitamins is being administered under supervision of veterinarians. Fruits like water melon, papaya are also being fed to birds.
