Gorakhnath Mutt temple holds havans and Kalashyatra for 2015 Earthquake victims

Gorakhpur, May 22 (ANI): A temple in the Gorakhpur held special prayers for earthquake victims in Nepal and India.

The Gorakhnath Mutt temple in the Gorakhpur town of Uttar Pradesh conducted a ritual called ‘havan’, a religious practice of making offerings into the consecrated fire, as well as ‘kalashyathra’ (a special religious procession) for the well being of victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal and parts of northern India.

The series of rituals was conducted by the head priest of the temple and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath. A massive earthquake, measuring 7.9 had struck Nepal on April 25 killing more than 8,000 people and leaving more than 19,000 injured.

A second major quake struck on May 12, 76 kilometres east of the capital Kathmandu, just as Nepalis were beginning to recover from the previous earthquake.
