LGBTQ community stages protest in Delhi, calls for end of discrimination by govt

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): Members of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community held a protest in New Delhi, demanding equal treatment and an end to the ‘homophobic’ policies of the central government. The protesters raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government’s ‘apathy’ towards the poor and the working class and demanded repeal of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalises same-sex relationships. Activists said the world was slowly waking up to accept the LGBT community and that it was apparent also in many parts of India. Protesters said they have the right to be treated as normal citizens. The protest comes just days after a BJP leader said homosexuality was a ‘genetic disorder’.
