Cops’ uniform allowance up

PATNA: The state government on Friday hiked the uniform allowance of policemen from Rs 2,650 to Rs 4,000. As many as 68,000 constables will benefit from the hike.

The salary of primary, middle and secondary teachers, working in panchayat, block and municipal areas, has also been hiked by Rs 1,000 from August 2010.

Children between three and six years who do pre-schooling in Anganbari Kendras will be given Rs 250 each for clothes. There are 80,000 such kendras in the state, each having 40 children.

In another important decision, the state government okayed an amendment to the Bihar State Journalist Welfare Fund Rules, 1981, and raised the amount of assistance to needy journalists.

Making this announcement after releasing the final report card of his government, chief minister Nitish Kumar said now up to Rs 50,000 can be granted by the government to needy journalists. Earlier, this amount was capped at Rs 5,000. The targeted beneficiaries include journalists working with print, electronic as well as e-media.
