PATNA: Bihar, which has lost its leadership position in the field of education due to mismanagement of the state’s education system, still has the ability to regain its leadership, said the vice-chancellor of Central University of Bihar, Janak Pandey.
He was inaugurating a three-day-long 4th Bihar Science Congress at LS College, Muzaffarpur, 100 kilometers from the state capital.
“The land of one of the first great universities in recorded history, Nalanda University, and one of the world’s greatest mathematicians, Aryabhata; Bihar has the capacity to once again emerge as the prime centre of education in India,” Pandey said.
“But for that the state government and the University Grants Commission ( UGC) will have to formulate new and innovative ideas to improve education at all levels,” he added.
Bombay University’s ex-VC Dileep Kumar also praised the educational strengths of Bihar. “There is no dearth of knowledge in Bihar. And the state also holds promise in the application of technology. Bihar has plenty of water and there is large scope for bio-technology in Bihar,” he said.
Several national and international universities and institutes, including NASA Langley Research Center and Colorado State University (USA), University of Oxford (UK), Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, Kharagpur and Mumbai, University of Hyderabad, are participating in the meet.
Mexico-based expert Dr Barbara Fmma Sanchez Rinza, who was present as keynote speaker, also praised the history of education in Bihar. “Though the ancient atmosphere is not there now, Bihar has lately been growing in the field of education,” she said.
