PATNA: A variety of cultural programme was held to mark the Bihar Diwas celebration at B D College here on Tuesday. Teachers and students participated in the celebration.
According to the college principal Sita Ram Singh, the highlight of the celebration was a colourful Prabhat Pheri taken out by boys and girls of the college. Several students of the college, who were the toppers at the Degree level examinations in different streams, were also honoured on the occasion. One -act play, folk dance and essay competitions were also held to mark the Bihar Diwas function as well as to give a boost to their sense of pride of being Biharis, he said.
A seminar on Bihar — Desk Ka Gaurav was also held on the college campus. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that Bihar occupies a high place in the history as a citadel of cultural glory. It was the frontrunner in the freedom struggle movement, too, he said. In fact, Bihar guided the destiny of the country during the ancient period, he said.
It was a rare treat to watch the college building illuminated with 99 diyas (lamps), which were lit on Tuesday evening on the college campus, Singh said.
A N College, College of Commerce , T P S College, B S College, Danapur, and J D Women s College, all under Magadh University (MU), also organized function to mark the day.
College of Commerce: College of Commerce observed the day with enthusiasm. A cultural programme was held on the campus. Students, including girls, participated in the function in large number. As many as 99 diyas were lit on the campus to observe the day, said college principal P K Verma.
A N College: A N College too observed the day with great fervour and spirits. Students participated in the function enthusiastically. Seminar, cultural programme and folk dances were held on the campus to highlight the cultural glory of Bihar in the past. NSS students of the college were assigned the responsibility of receiving the guests at Jai Prakash Narain International Airport , Patna , said college principal Haridwar Singh.
J D Women s College: J D Women s College also celebrated with great spirits. Girls organized a colourful cultural programme . Seminar on the importance of Bihar and its development was also held on the campus. Signifying importance of 99 years of Bihar, 99 diyas were lit on the campus , said college principal Usha Singh.
B S College: B S College, Danapur, organized a variety of cultural programme on Tuesday on the campus. Apart from lighting 99 lamps on the occasion, a lively discussion was held about the historical importance of Bihar in the past and people s role in the development of the state at present, said the college principal Praveen Kumar.
