Sewage Treatment Plans along the bank of Ganga to make it pollution free

PATNA: For making Ganga pollution free, the state government would set up sewage treatment plants along its banks from Buxar to Bhagalpur. 

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the officials of Bihar State Ganga River Protection Authority held under the chairmanship of chief minister Nitish Kumar here on Saturday.

Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, state urban development department principal secretary Shashi Shekhar Sharma said the meeting reviewed the progress of schemes being executed under theNational Ganga River Basin Authority for protection of the river. He said that it was decided at the meeting that all the towns on the river bank from Buxar to Bhagalpur should have sewage treatment system.

The state government has sanctioned plans for sewage plants at Buxar, Hajipur, Munger and Begusarai, the principal secretary said and added that officials concerned had been directed to prepare detailed project reports of the rest 21 towns located on the banks of Ganga.

Sharma said the CM directed the authorities to accelerate the pace of work for developing and beautifying the river bank in the state capital with thrust on ensuring quality works. 

Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, urban development minister Prem Kumar, water resources minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and chief secretary Anup Mukherjee were prominent among those who attending the meeting.
