PATNA: Bihar is likely to have a new information technology (IT) institute soon with the Nitish government giving its consent early this year to the Centre for the latter’s proposal to set up such an institute under public private partnership (PPP) mode in the state.
The Centre had sought the state’s consent before deciding to allocate one IT centre to Bihar, to be opened under a new pan-India plan that fulfils both the national and state-specific needs and demands. One IT institute has been planned for every state and is sought to be christened Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).
The states concerned had to give their consent to provide around 100 acres of land for the opening of an IIIT. Nitish government has informed the Centre that it has identified around 100 acres of land under Bahadurpur ‘mauja (revenue village)’ in Chandi block of Nalanda district, around 50km from here, for the proposed IIIT in Bihar.
