PATNA: IMA, Bihar state branch, has welcomed the state cabinet nod to two important bills, Medicare Service Institution and Persons Protection Bill and Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Bill, for being introduced in the ongoing session of state legislature.
IMA state secretary Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said, “It is a step taken in the right direction.” However, he said that the government had not held broad consultations with doctors in drafting the two bills. Bihar Health Services Association (BHSA) general secretary Dr Ajay Kumar also thanked the government for giving nod to the two bills.
A major irritant between the two sides was the demand of doctors to implement a Health Protection Act on Andhra model, where stringent clauses are in force to punish those responsible for attack on doctors while on duty. However, the government’s contention was that it was not feasible to implement an act enforced somewhere else in toto here. It claims that the bill incorporates all good provisions of the laws enforced in various states on the issue.
