Bihar Government has made an important change in its proposed Lokayukta Bill which would bring Chief Minister under the purview of Lokayukta. This is seen as a very positive development when there is a national debate on the inclusion of Prime Minister under the purview of Lokapal, the federal counterpart of Lokayukta. Bihar is one of the first states which has taken favourable steps for the successful implementation of Lokayukta.
The Lokayukta in Bihar would be a three-member team headed by a chairperson in contrast to the one member Lokayukta provisioned by Bihar Lokayukta Act, 1973. The new bill is roughly based on the Jan Lokapal Bill prepared by members of Team Anna and is expected to be presented to state legislature in upcoming winter session.
