Bihar has plans to setup three new Mega Food Parks. The aim of these food parks are to lessen the wastage of fruits and vegetables and to promote food processing industry.These measures are expected to generate additional employment avenues in the province. A Cabinet panel headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently approved the proposal.This decision is important keeping in mind that almost 40% of the total agricultural produce is getting wasted in Bihar
These parks would run on Public Private Partnership model and the state would bear 20% of the establishment cost.
Some of the other advantages of these food parks are
1. It would ensure that the farmers receive the appropriate price for their agriculture produce.
2. It would reduce wastage of fruits and vegetables by promoting food processing industry in Bihar.
3. It would lead to development of a major market for agriculture produce.
