Indian Meteorological Department in Bihar has installed S-Band Doppler Weather Radar at Anishabad, Patna. It is the seventh place where such radar has been installed. With this it would be able to accurately predict the weather behaviour in the 500 km radius, covering entire Bihar and parts of Jharkhand.
The first such Doppler radar was installed in Delhi in 1953 with an aim to facilitate aviation. Later it was installed in 5 Metros. Patna is the first non-metro city where such radar is being installed.
This will immensely help Bihar as Weather forecast at right time will help to overcome natural calamities. This is a step towards further progressing in the field of weather forecast. It would scan the atmosphere 24 x 7 and predict the weather condition well in advance.
It was inaugurated by Science and Technology minister of Bihar Gautam Singh. Former Technology minister Dr. Anil Kumar was also at the occasion. Others present were Ajit Tyagi- Director General of meteorological department, S K Kundu, S N Roy both DGM at Meterological Deptt.
