While whole India might be burning on the flames of Foreign Direct Investment in Retail Sector, few farmers in Bihar have lent full support to FDI. Their claim is that they want to eliminate the middleman and feel that this can happen only after giving a boost to retail sector. FDI in Retail would be a major boost.
It is noteworthy that most of the opponents to the FDI in Retail are Middleman who are small and medium Traders. The Farmers who produce crops have not opposed it fully. The reason, being the regular exploitation by the middleman.
FDI in retail sector will be very beneficial for the farmers. The farmers will earn the profits directly and will get rid of the middlemen. And when the farmers will benefit, then they will sell the product at lower prices in the market. Bringing FDI in retail sector is a good step and the farmers will receive good response in the market and we would get rid of the middlemen,” said Vinay Kumar, a farmer.
Recently, the UPA Government had approved 51 percent foreign ownership in multi-brand retail with conditions, and full ownership in single-brand retail.
