There has been an increase of 41 square km of forest area in Bihar according to report of the Forest Survey of India (FSI), 2011. The total forest area in the country was 6,92,394 km in 2009 and there has been decrease of 367 km in the last two years
As per the FSI Report, 2011, the state had 6,804 square km of forest area in 2009 which increased to 6,845 square km in 2011 thus recording an increase of 41 square km in the past two years, a positive sign.
The Report also quotes that that there has been an increase of 500 square km of forest areas in 15 states, including Bihar
Deputy CM Sushil expressed his happiness over this and said that the Nitish government gave special attention to tree plantation campaign and the results are very encouraging. He also said that the new Agriculture Road Map will give special attention to tree plantation in 15 percent of land in the next five years. There is a plan to plant 21 crore trees in the next five years.
