The biography of Mukul Roy, the next Railway Minister

Mukul Roy has been nominated to be the next Railway Minister of India after Diensh Trivedi resigned from the Cabinet. Below we present the biography of Mukul Roy, the wannabe Railway Minister.

He was born on 17 April 1954 to Shri Jugal Nath Roy and Shrimati Rekha Roy at Kanchrapara, Distt. North 24 Parganas (West Bengal). He is educated till Higher Secondary. He is married to Shrimati Krishna Roy and has a son.

Mukul Roy is a member of the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal. He also serves as the General Secretary of his party, the All India Trinamool Congress. He is the current Minister of State for Shipping in the Council of Ministers of India. After Mamata Banerjee resigned as the Railway Minister she was to become the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Roy was handed additional charge of the Railway Ministry after Mamata expressed her desire that her party retain the Railway Ministry and personally recommended Roy to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He served as a Minister of State in the Railway Ministry with Manmohan Singh serving as the Cabinet Minister (pro tem) till July 11, 2011.
He also served as Non-Executive Director (as a social worker) of United Bank of India, 2002
