New Delhi: The Indian cricket board Monday formally ratified the amnesty plea of Kiran More, former India wicketkeeper, who had gone over to the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). His former captain Kapil Dev may follow suit.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) working committee agreed to take More back into the fold after he apologised for joining the now defunct ICL and he will be eligible for board’s one-time benefit to former cricketers as well as for the pension.
More, who played 49 Tests and 94 One-Day Internationals for India, is now eligible for one-time payment of Rs.60 lakh, part of an amount distributed from the profits of the knockout games of the Indian Premier League-V.
Though there was a passing reference at the meeting to Kapil Dev’s case, the matter was not pursued further as there was no letter or request from the former India captain seeking amnesty.
However, a senior board official told IANS that the BCCI chief is looking into Kapil’s issue and an honourable settlement is expected soon.
It is learnt BCCI president N. Srinivasan and Kapil already have held a meeting and both are keen on ending the impasse.
