Indian Beauty Deana Uppal faces Racial insults in Big Brother Show

Indian British Model  Deana Uppal has been subjected to a ‘tirade of insults’ on the  Big Brother show and on Twitter last week.

In 2007 actress Shilpa Shetty was the victim of racial remarks on “Celebrity Big Brother”. Five years later, Indian British model Deana Uppal faced similar “insults” from a fellow contestant Conor McIntyre  on the British reality show. On the show, she has been adderesed as a “piece of shit” by Conor McIntyre.

Uppal is the current Miss India UK and has done modeling assignments in the UK and India. She has apparently infuriated housemates with her alleged inability to wash up or cook, because she is used to her mother doing everything for her and because she employs servants in India.

After watching the show, 1,200-plus viewers filed complaints against the racits remarks to Ofcom, Britain’s television regulator and it has mounted a probe.

The incident occurred on June 25 episode and many viewers thought that McIntyr’s behaviour amounted to bullying, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

A teenager was taken into custody for questioning in Whitehaven, Cumbria (north England), after he allegedly posted online racist abuse about Uppal.

The Ofcom spokeswoman said that the incident in which housemate McIntyre “launched a tirade of insults against Deana Uppal”, prompted 1,108 complaints. “Many viewers thought it amounted to bullying,” she said.
McIntyre has been warned about his behaviour by Big Brother producers after he used a string of expletives.

In another episode, aired on June 28, a female housemate called a black contestant “ridiculous gorilla” with “no sanitation” and Ofcom said it registered 114 complaints from viewers about the remark, which was perceived as racist.

A Channel 5 spokesman said the broadcaster is committed to complying with Ofcom’s broadcasting code and “will help to facilitate a speedy investigation into this particular episode of ‘Big Brother’.”
