PM Manmohan Singh, Film Stars Condole the demise of Dara Singh

Dara SinghWhole India is mourning Dara Singh’s death. Film Stars, Politicians and Indian Prime Minister have condoled hsi sad demise.

Film industry’s senior members like Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher remembered the macho man as “one of the finest humans” and “The strongest and the humblest. A hero all the way”, respectively.

Best known for his portrayal of Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan” and in B.R. Chopra’s “Mahabharat”, for fans across the country Dara Singh was the face of Lord Hanuman.

“The warmth in his eyes when he smiled as Hanumanji connected me to him the very first time as someone so good hearted,” tweeted Divya Dutta.

Preity Zinta wrote: “As a kid he was Hanuman my Hero!”

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh  has also expressed deep grief over the passing away of wrestler-actor Dara Singh and said he had been an inspiration and icon to many generations in the country.

In his condolence message, the prime minister said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Shri Dara Singh, who has been an inspiration and icon to many generations in our country.”

“A self-educated son-of-the-soil, he rose to the heights of the entertainment world, sports arena and public life with humility and grace. His contribution to the Hindi and Punjabi cinema, wrestling and the Upper House of the Parliament will be remembered by millions.”

 

His last rites will be conducted around 3 p.m. at a cemetery in Juhu. “We are preparing for the last rites, and they should be done around 3 p.m.,” a source close to the family told IANS.

Bollywood celebrities including Manoj Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Anu Malik are at present at Dara Singh’s residence.

The “Rustam-e-Hind” title holder is survived by his wife and six children – three sons and three daughters. One of his sons, Vindo Dara Singh, is a known name in showbiz.
