Why Air India Flight made Emergency Landing in Pakistan ?

An Air India AI 940  flight bound for New Delhi from Abu Dhabi with 122 passengers  and six crew members on board made an emergency landing at  Nawabshah airport in Pakistan’s Sindh province early Monday due to what is being called a technical fault. All on board were reported safe.

The carrier said a relief aircraft would be sent to there  to bring those on board back by afternoon.

The Abu Dhabi-New Delhi flight AI-940, which originated from Bahrain, was forced to make the landing after a hydraulic failure warning, an airline official said.

As a precautionary measure, the flight — scheduled to arrive at 5.15 a.m. in Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport — made the landing at the Pakistani airport, the official added.

“All passengers and crew members are safe. There is no cause for worry.”

India is in constant touch with its High Commission in Pakistan . “Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai is in touch with the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal, who is in contact with the pilot,” sources in MEA said.

The pilot has informed that the condition on the plane is “reasonable”. The sources said as the terminal is small, passengers can be allowed to disembark in groups.

The captain of the aircraft, going to New Delhi from Abu Dhabi, had contacted Pakistani authorities and sought permission for an emergency landing after detecting the problem with the hydraulic system.

The captain preferred to keep passengers on board though Pakistani authorities have offered to allow them to disembark, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Pervez George said.

A technical team, which will also go on the rescue flight, will investigate the causes that resulted in the hydraulic warning getting activated in the aircraft.
