The Delhi High Court will today decide the anticipatory bail plea of Haryana’s former minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, accused of abetting the suicide of former flight attendant Geetika Sharma.
Justice P.K. Bhasin is likely to pronounce the order three days after he reserved the order on Kanda’s plea Tuesday.
Geetika, 23, was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on the night of Aug 4-5. She left behind two suicide notes, blaming Kanda and his employee Aruna Chaddha, who is now in judicial custody.
The former minister was booked for abetment to Geetika’s suicide and criminal intimidation. He is yet to appear before Delhi Police for questioning.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Devender Kumar Jangala, meanwhile, issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Kanda, the victim’s employer, and fixed Aug 24 for hearing.
The court also sent Chaddha, senior executive in Kanda’s group and employee of his now-defunct MDLR Airlines, to judicial custody till Aug 30. She was arrested Aug 8.
Geetika earlier worked as a flight attendant in the MDLR Airlines. After the airlines ceased to function in 2009, she was given a job in another company owned by Kanda.
Additional Solicitor General Sidharth Luthra, appearing for police, had opposed Kanda’s anticipatory bail plea in the high court and sought Kanda’s custodial interrogation to find out the conspiracy between him and Chaddha.
Senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi, who represented Kanda, sought anticipatory bail for him and said suicide notes left behind by Geetika could not be taken as gospel truth.
“Suicide letters are written in anger and so any allegations can be levelled out of anger and so suicide notes should not be taken as gospel truth,” he said.
Kanda’s anticipatory bail plea was dismissed Aug 9 by a sessions court here.
