Former  Harayana Minister and key accused in Geetika Sharma murder case, Gopal Kanda would surrender before court on Monday. He is likely to be arrested thereupon. He may file an anticipatory an bail application Monday in Delhi High Court.
His brother Govind Goyal told this to Media. However, His lawyer Kapil Sankhla, however, was quick to add that Kanda would move court on Monday and not surrender, as he was not absconding.
“The question of surrendering doesn’t arise as my client is not an absconder. It is being explored if he will appear in person,” said Sankhla.
He added that Kanda was was “not appearing before the police because they’ve created a fear psychosis amongst all MDLR employees”.
“Kanda is collecting his documents and all the papers related to this case and is in touch with his lawyers. He just wants some time to get all the papers. There are glaring loopholes in the police’s theory,” he added.
Gopal Kanda has been evading arrest ever since the news of Geetika Sharma’s alleged suicide came to light.
On Wednesday, the Delhi Police confirmed that Kanda was absconding, while his colleague and co-accused in the case, Aruna Chadha was arrested later that evening. She is now in a two-day judicial custody.
DCP P Karunakaran said, “We still haven’t been able to find him. We are still carrying out searches in Haryana.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, the Delhi Police questioned Kanda’s relatives in connection with the case.
His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a court on Thursday.
Also, the police raided Kanda’s Sirsa residence for the second time on Thursday evening.
Post Mortem Report of Geetika Sharma
The post-mortem reports of Geetika Sharma, a former employee of the Kanda-owned MDLR group, has been handed over to the police. The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the incident. Its Chairperson Mamata Sharma met Geetika’s family on Thursday.
Kanda, who owned the now-defunct MDLR Airlines where Geetika was employed earlier, faces charges of criminal intimidation. Kanda, who began his career as a chappal seller and later became a multi-millionaire property dealer, floated MDLR Airline in 2007. He was elected as an Independent legislator from Sirsa constituency in the October 2009 assembly polls in Haryana and joined the Congress-led government headed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Hooda Washes out his Hands
Stating that he was a “law abiding citizen”, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Friday said Gopal Goyal Kanda was not part of his government any more and should join Delhi Police investigations into the suicide of former flight attendant Geetika Sharma.
Virtually washing his hands of Kanda, Hooda was evasive about his former minister of state for home, who has gone into hiding after Geetika named him in her suicide note. She committed suicide Aug 5. Kanda has been booked for abetment to suicide.
Saying that Kanda, who has been booked for abetment to suicide, should join the investigations, Hooda said: “I am a law abiding man and every individual should cooperate in the investigation process. He is no longer part of my government.”
Hooda said that Kanda was his minister but has now resigned.
“Delhi Police are investigating the case and law would take its own course,” Hooda told reporters.
He was made minister of state for home by Hooda despite having been named in police cases earlier.
