Harayana Congress Minister Gopal Kanda resigns after Air Hostess Suicide

Gopal Kanda, Congress Leader and Minister of State in Haryana Government resigned today after being held as the reason of suicide by Former Air Hostess Geetika Sharma.

Gopal Kanda was the owner of a former Airlines Company MDLR Airlines which went defunct in 2009 within 2 years of its operation.  Geetika Sharma used to work as Air hostess in the Airlines.

The police have recovered a suicide note from the spot in which the ex-MDLR employee has blamed Haryana minister of state, Gopal Kanda, for allegedly harassing her mentally.

In her suicide note, Geetika had claimed that Kanda was mentally torturing her after she left the job in his company. She also wrote that he was pressurizing her to join his firm again.

“They have broken my trust. They have cheated me. Due to this, I am committing suicide,” said the suicide note.

Haryana’s controversial minister of state for home Gopal Kanda submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in New Delhi Sunday evening.
“I have submitted my resignation to the chief minister today evening after he returned from Kolkata,” Kanda told reporters in Gurgaon.

The resignation came hours after Kanda was booked for abetment to suicide after a former air-hostess, Geetika Sharma, committed suicide in New Delhi Sunday. She had, in her suicide note, accused him of harassing her which led to her suicide.

Geetika SharmaGeetika’s brother Gaurav alleged that Kanda often visited their home after her sister joined MDLR Airlines, which he owned, as an air hostess around one and a half years back.

He further said, “When the airline’s operation was suspended, Kanda offered her another job. She refused that offer and joined Emirates in Dubai. Kanda then wrote a letter to Emirates claimimg that Geetika was a woman of bad character. This led to her termination from the airline. Kanda also told her that she will have to work only in his company and nowhere else.”

“I have believed these people, but they are not trustworthy. She has said that whatever has happened with her, it shouldn’t happen with anyone else. To save herself from these circumstances, she was taking this step,” her brother said quoting the suicide note.

“After my sister quit the job, Kanda came home again and persuaded her to rejoin. When she did not agree, he offered her a job in another company owned by him called Supersonic in Gurgaon,” Gaurav alleged.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) will probe the case of suicide by a former airhostess following alleged harassment by a Haryana Minister, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said on Sunday.
