Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi has demended disfranchisement of  illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam. “What happened in Assam is a matter of concern to all of us”, he was quoted saying.
The presence of a large number of Bangladeshi infiltrators has created tension among local tribals,” Modi told reporters during a visit to Bhubaneshwar, Orissa. In view of the prevailing scenario, the Centre should make immediate efforts to restore peace in Assam. Immediate steps should also be taken to disenfranchise illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, Bihar deputy chief minister said.
The violence took place at a time when Congress was in power both at the Centre and the state, he said. The violence that took place in Mumbai yesterday during a protest against the Assam riots was also a matter of serious concern, he said.
To a query, the senior BJP leader said in comparison to Congress-ruled states, other provinces governed by non-Congress political parties have been doing well and performing better. Modi, however, declined to comment on the performance of the BJD government in Odisha.
