Government of India today blocked over 300 websites and over 50 Twitter handles on the charges of spreading hatred and rumours
The blocked accounts include those maintained by Kanchan Gupta  @kanchangupta, who until a few months ago was with the Pioneer newspaper, and Shiv Aroor @ShivAroor  , a deputy editor with Headlines Today news channel.
Other blocked accounts include Dosabandit - @Dosabandit , Barbarindian – @barbarindian, Amit Paranjape – @aparanjape,
The other twitter handles that have been blocked include  Eagle Eye (@eagleeye47), Twitanic (@anilkohli54), Sangh Parivar (@sanghpariwar), Sumeet (@sumeetcj), Pravin Togadia (DrPravinTogadia), Panchajanya (@i_panchajanya), Scamsutra (@scamsutra), Ekakizunj (@ekakizunj) and redditindia (@redditindia).
Additionally Govt is working with Twitter to remove several accounts  which imitates Prime Minister’s Office viz. @Indian_pm, @PMOIndiaa, @dryumyumsingh, @PM0India.
These accounts used witty humorous impersonations of political leaders, where the failure of the govt are highlighted and  most of them are known to be anti-jihadi and nationalist in opinion., but were blocked on account of being hate mongers
Since morning Twitter users launched campaign  #Emergency2012 and #GOIBlocksÂ
One user Tweeted, “Government of India  is like a semi-literate teacher in school who gets the principal to disallow asking questions in the class”.
